Dr. J.P. is a professor of statistics in the Institute and currently working as Director, Centre for Advanced Studies an Indian Institute of Physical Education and has experience of more than thirty three years of teaching and research. He served as in-charge Vice Chancellor since Nov. 2014 to Sept 2015. Centre for Advanced Studies deals with PhD and MPhil programmes of the Institute.

He has been working as a professor in the Institute for more than twelve years, and possess three masters degrees; in statistics, psychology and computer application besides a PhD degree in mathematics. He has the distinction of holding 1st position in MSc(Statistics) from Kanpur university and 1st position in MA(Psychology) from Jiwaji university Gwalior.

Dr. J.P. has successfully guided nine PhD candidates and has seven books (Published by Wiley, Springer, Tata McGraw and others) in the area of research and statistics in exercise science, health, sports, physical education management and psychology and 34 research papers/articles to his credit. His latest book John Wiley, USA is under publication (Publication date: March 2016).

Dr. J.P. has a patent to his credit on a fitness assessment and management system for school children and youth. This know-how was validated by the independent body appointed by the Institute he works under the grant of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. He has also successfully completed one minor project sponsored by UGC. Presently he is working on a major project on talent identification in sports sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India.

Dr. J.P. has acted as an expert for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), New Delhi, on various assignments. He was a visiting fellow in the University of Sydney in 2002. He had an academic visits to Australia, Poland and Scotland.
